Your Bio

For James, photography is not only a hobby but part of his life; and being somewhere cameraless is out of the question! Working and living in and around Qualicum Beach on Vancouver Island in beautiful British Columbia, James has the privilege of being spoiled by the local scenery, events and wildlife year round. He works for the railway part time with the maintenance department on the Port Alberni Subdivision of the E&N Railway. In addition, he is also with the Dashwood Fire Department north of Qualicum Beach. With a long term career goal in mind for the railroad, photography has, is, and always will be valued by James throughout his life. He spends a great deal of time with his camera spotting the right location, position, lighting and timing to fully capture the true value that every moment holds. Born a railroader, railroad photography is a favorite for James and being at the right place at the right time is a key to capturing any perfect moment. Landscape photography and outdoor portraits are also a favorite. As a photographer always looking for the ultimate opportunity, James loves to experiment with different camera angles, photo editing techniques and new ways to make a statement through his image; or even, an image through his statement. James is also a contributor to popular railroad photography site: RailPictures.Net. I shoot through a Nikon D5100 using two Nikkor Lenses (18-55/55-200mm) and a combination of Photoshop 10 and Lightroom 4 to edit my work. Although many of my photos are edited to the effect intended, some remain raw; after all, why change a great picture? It's here to be shared... enjoy!
